Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains how we handle your data.

NjangiBase ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our community finance, mutual aid, governance, and member-support services.
When you register for membership or use our services, we may collect:
To verify your connection to Cameroon, we collect information about your region of origin and community ties. This may include family lineage information, proof of parentage, marriage certificates, or other documentation establishing your Cameroonian heritage.
When you submit or are a beneficiary of a campaign, we collect relevant details including:
We automatically collect limited technical information when you access our platform: your IP address (used for security, rate limiting and audit records), browser and device type, and error and performance diagnostics that tell us when something breaks. If you turn on notifications, we store the push endpoint your browser issues so we can deliver them. We do not run advertising or behavioural analytics, and we do not track you across other websites.
Medical campaigns involve information about a patient's condition. It is the most sensitive data on the platform — a special category under Article 9 of the GDPR — and we hold it to stricter rules than ordinary membership information. We collect only what a reviewer needs in order to assess the request:
Your consent. We ask for your explicit consent on its own checkbox when you submit a medical campaign, kept separate from the general declarations so that accepting our terms never doubles as agreement to share medical details. You can withdraw it at any time by writing to privacy@njangibase.com.
Kept inside the review. Health information is never published on a campaign page and is never visible to the membership at large. It reaches only the people who need it to reach a decision: you and the beneficiary, the president of the beneficiary's association, the administrators reviewing the request, and — where a case is referred for verification — the healthcare professional assigned to it. The contribution figures the wider network sees carry no medical detail.
How long we keep it. Health information is kept with the campaign record and no longer than that record, which we retain for audit and dispute resolution under Section 6. A completed campaign remains part of the association's financial history even after an account closes; to have medical details removed or redacted from a past campaign, write to privacy@njangibase.com and we will deal with your request individually.
We use the information we collect to:
Your basic membership information (name, association, region of origin) is visible to other verified members to foster community connection. Campaign details are shared with the network to enable collective solidarity support.
Association presidents and officers have access to member information within their association to facilitate local coordination, contribution collection, and community support.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including encryption of sensitive data, secure authentication systems, regular security audits, and restricted access to personal information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain your personal information for as long as your membership is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Campaign records are retained for historical and audit purposes. Deceased members are transferred to our Memorial Archive where their legacy is preserved with dignity.
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
To exercise these rights, please contact us at privacy@njangibase.com or through your account settings.
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and to remember preferences such as your language. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not use analytics cookies to profile how you browse. You can control cookies through your browser, though disabling essential cookies will stop you from signing in.
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence when needed to operate NjangiBase services. We use appropriate safeguards for those transfers in line with applicable data protection laws.
Associations are built around families, and NjangiBase reflects that. A parent, guardian or direct member can enrol a spouse, child or dependent alongside their own membership, so a household appears in the association's records as a household.
Where a dependent is under 18, the enrolment is made and managed by the responsible adult, who is recorded on the application. A dependent minor is enrolled without an account of their own — no email address or password is required — so a child does not sign in unless a guardian deliberately creates access for them, and the adult exercises the child's data rights on their behalf.
For family membership, we ask for information that establishes the relationship and the dependent's eligibility for support, including name, date of birth, and proof of identity, which for an infant may be a birth certificate. If a campaign concerns a child, the responsible adult may also provide the campaign information described in Section 2.3 and the health information described in Section 2.5.
The platform is not designed for or marketed to children, and children are not expected to use it themselves. If you believe a child has been enrolled without a guardian's authority, write to privacy@njangibase.com and we will review the record and remove it where appropriate.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
